When taking the dive into fashion colored hair, your making a statement and declaring your own independence. It has become it’s own world of mermaids (and mermans!): bright and vibrant or soft and elegant. There is no limit to what these hair artists will create; However, the process to get you there requires a knowledgeable and skilled stylist. This is what you will find at Avant Garde. Passion is what moves us forward and hair is our gateway to expression. The French word Avant Garde translates to ‘bringing the trend.’ We take pride in our word, and in our work. Hope you will join me again next week and see you soon at Avant Garde!

New services in Avant-Garde Salon&spa !!
You may have heard the term “microdermabrasion” used in your favorite salon or spa
but have wondered what it really is, and what it does for your skin. The following is an
explanation of the procedure and a list of the benefits microdermabrasion has to offer.
The term “micro” refers to the tiny crystallized diamond compound that is used during
the procedure. These diamond crystals are moved across the surface of the skin to
gently exfoliate, or remove, dead skin cells, pigmentation or dark spots, blackheads,
whiteheads, and other skin debris. When this top layer of skin is removed, the debris is
vacuumed away, leaving fresh, clean, new skin behind. This process stimulates blood
flow to the skin’s surface, as well as stimulates the skin’s natural collagen production.
For the first time in Avant-Garde Salon and spa , Elisabeth our facialist will perform a
speciality , the Microdermabrasion skin treatment , we are located 155 Miracle Mile in
the heart of Coral Gables , Miami .
Feel free to contact Elisabeth for a complementary skin diagnostic.
Elisabeth will be happy to answer all your questions and to determine with you the
process to restaure your skin .
Your Hair Salon in Miami is giving you a few tips to wake up with awesome hair !
Waking up to good hair without any effort on your part the night before is like accidentally getting the half off on current-season boots at Barney’s—rare, precious and best accepted without question. Waking up to great hair every day with only slightly more intention than none? Totally possible. Our hair stylists in Avant-Garde-Salon and spa share with you the overnight hairstyles to learn for the best results in the morning
To preserve a bouncy blowout: To maintain the volume of your blowout and avoid any creases, use a soft, foam styling donut (like the Wrap Up) or large, two-inch bobby pins to secure your hair in a loose, high top knot. To wake up to big waves, wrap smooth, almost-dry hair into two donut buns on either side.
To wake up with smooth, straight hair: Starting behind the ear, wrap all your hair in one direction around the head to create a flat, smooth surface and secure with large bobby pins where needed. Then tie a silk scarf tightly around your head to keep your hair in place all night.
To wake up with beachy, surfer girl waves: Make two French braids on either side of your head. Keep them as loose as possible and braid as far down to the ends as you can to avoid kinks and frizz. For a slightly less textured effect, run a flexible mousse through your hair, then twist medium sections away from your face into five to six buns and secure with bobby pins. You’ll have natural, Gisele waves when you remove the pins in the morning.
To avoid wild bangs: Whether it’s combing and loosely blow-drying or securing them down and to the side with a tissue and a duckbill clip, bangs need to be fixed immediately after washing or they’re hopeless. Run a light-hold matte pomade down the length with a bristle brush for quick taming in the morning.
To deep condition overnight: Start by washing your hair and focusing on the scalp. Using warm water will open up the cuticle and allow the moisturizers to seep into the cortex of each hair strand. Then apply the deep conditioner with a wide-toothed comb to ensure even application. Wrap your hair in saran wrap to keep your sheets clean and your hair together. In the morning, do a cool rinse to lock in the moisturizing ingredients.

Bold Eyeliner is Trending for Fall 2014
Bold eyeliner is on trend for Fall 2014. To become expert in doing your eyeliner , you’ll need to have the right color, the confidence to rock this edgy look, and a deft hand when applying the makeup. These tips will help you get it right.
Keep it basic
Black works best for this look, as it’s the most dramatic and delivers the biggest impact. We recommend you stick with black, but if you want to branch out from there, try a stark white liquid liner. More colorful eyeliner pencils can look very punk rock, so aren’t necessarily the best way to pull off this trend.
While eyeliner always requires a steady hand, you really need one when applying a thick coating. Otherwise, you come off like a kid playing with her mom’s makeup. Keeping your hand steady, apply eyeliner very close to the lash line. Connect the inside and outside corners to make the look appear seamless.
If you want even more of an impact, you can extend the outward edges for a Cleopatra-style bold eye. Or you can use a kohl pencil to draw big, elaborate edges that slope toward your brows. There are tons of pics online of bold eyeliner in runway shows, so you can get inspiration once you’ve mastered the basic application.
Love it and own it to really make this look come alive. It’s bold and definitely out there, so project your own confidence when wearing it.
In our Salon in Miami we ’re loving this look for women and we’re super psyched to help you give it a try. What other Fall 2014 makeup trends are you in ?
Feel free to pass by our Salon , we are located 155, Miracle Mile in Miami in the heart of Coral Gables .

Highlights the same color as your natural hair? So last year.
Now you should try these colorful dyed tips !
A few years ago: Unusual hair color like greens, pinks, or blues automatically qualify you as “punk.”
Now: Pastel pink hair has made its way into the pages of “Vogue,” and celebrity are wearing Blue ombre on the red carpet.
“Unusual” hair color has officially took place in top salons as the new dyed hair trends.
While we don’t know why people have changed their attitude about colored hair, it’s a change that makes us very happy.
Another way to express yourself and get creative with your hairstyles? There are a variety of techniques and ways to wear this hair color trend, so it’s easy for any girl to try.
Whether you’re looking for a bold, long-term commitment Mermaid Ombre or a quick and non-damaging method like chalking.
Dipped tips are the most popular way to wear this hair color trend. The process requires a pretty big commitment because the hair must be bleached before any color is applied .
even if you’re already blonde. Because this process is complex, in Avant-garde salon and spa, we recommend that you get your tips dipped at the salon. You can also get a wider variety of hues since the color is mixed to your preference.
There are hundreds of pastel shades adding, that are hot right now.
” Summer is close so girls are going for lighter colors, plus pastels don’t cause as big of a contrast with many natural hair colors. It creates more of a delicate effect.”
Darker jewel tones are also very popular ; Beet purples and Deep blues are finding their way into the mix. Another bonus to choosing a deep jewel tone like blue is the variety of hues that appear when the color begins to fade. “We love blue because it eventually fades to a turquoise green,”
Now that you’ve decided to experiment with a little color, what color should you choose?
Pink: “This works best on blondes, however a brunette with a warm skin tone could wear a deep rich pink or a pink with a little more red in it. Pinks would also be fun on redheads.
Blue: For girls with dark hair and an olive complexion, we recommends navy, while blondes should try a turquoise or pale blue.
Purple: All skin tones suit purple, but especially loves it on a dark brunette.
Green: “we see this working on a blonde, it’s a tough shade,” .
How long will your color last?
Depends on how much you wash your hair and whether the dye is permanent, semi-permanent, or temporary.
If you use semi-permanent color and you wash your hair every other day, you can expect the color to last four to five weeks. But if you wash your hair every day, you’re looking at two weeks.
We also recommend you to use a sulfate free shampoo and a leave-in with UV protection.
Different smoothing treatment
If you’re thinking about trying it, you should know this:
What Is Keratin? It’s a protein that’s naturally in your hair.
How It Works: A stylist applies a keratin hair-straightening product to your hair and then uses the heat of a flat iron to seal it in. The process takes about 90 minutes or longer, depending on your hair’s length. Salon keratin products include Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy by Coppola, Global Keratin Complex, the La-Brasiliana treatment, Brazilian Keratin Treatment, the Brazilian Blowout, and Brazilian Hair Straightening.
Time-Saving Tresses: If you usually style your hair straight, a keratin hair-straightening treatment could shorten your blow-dry time by 40% to 60%.
Farewell, Frizz: You can forget about frizzy hair after treatment. “You could walk out in moist or light rain and your hair won’t change,”
Wait Before You Wash: You shouldn’t wash your hair for three or four days after getting the treatment. That’s because the solution takes time to work, he says.
Upkeep: After you get a keratin hair treatment, and after the don’t-wash waiting period, you should use sodium-sulfate-free shampoo to help maintain the treatment.
How Long It Lasts: Expect the results to last two to 2 1/2 months.
Keratin treatments won’t make your hair break, but the flat-ironing might. “The hair breakage has nothing to do with the treatments and everything to do with the flat irons that are used to dry and seal the hair afterward, “Some stylists may use a flat iron that is way too hot and scorches hair, making it break off.”
“Keratin is more of a restorative treatment, “Even if you have a good hair type, it still strengthens the hair shaft and makes your hair more resilient.”
You may have heard about formaldehyde in salon keratin products.
Formaldehyde has been linked to health problems, especially for people who regularly work with it. The main health concern about formaldehyde in keratin products has been about salon workers, not people who get keratin hair treatments.
How much formaldehyde is in these products? That varies. The FDA and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have looked into formaldehyde levels in some of these products.
“You can ask salon professionals if they know whether a product contains formaldehyde-related ingredients or other ingredients you may wish to avoid,” the FDA’s web site states. If you have a bad reaction to the treatment, the FDA asks that you report it to them.
“Most companies that put out keratin treatments use safe levels. But the problematic part and where these treatments got a bad rap came when salons were mixing their own to incorporate more formaldehyde,” .
From the manufacturer’s website: It eliminates up to 95% of frizz while making curly hair more manageable. This safe alternative to traditional harsh straightening systems infuses the hair with a unique formula of amino acids, proteins, silk and pearl into the hairs cuticle. The system safely smooth’s frizzy, curly hair into beautiful, soft and silky hair. The process, that bonds the powerful (yet gentle) formula with the heat from the CHI iron and dryer, dramatically improves the condition, shine and smoothness of even the most unruly hair types. Results typically last up to 4 months.
Bottom line: It actually works.
The Japanese Japanese Hair Straightening is a long-standing hair straightening technique which employs heat to rebuild the bonds in your hair so the hair lies straight, leaving you with nothing but you glossy, silky, shiny straight hair. This technique is also usually referred to as the Japanese Hair Straightening. The thermal reconditioning or rebonding works most of the time on the majority types of hair other than African hair.
The Japanese Hair Straightening was devised around 1996 by a Japanese lady called unsurprisingly, Ms. Yuko. She created a fantastic non coating to straighten hair employed heat oxidation. This technique helped to rebuild the hair from the inner to the outer layer. She also used the unconventional ingredient of shark oil put on to the hair and used steam rather than heat directly on to the hair to condition it.
The Japanese Hair Straightening employs the notion of using the hair’s tiny amount of electrical charge to divert the cystine bone of the hair, and then re-shape it to seem straight.
You might think that hair that’s been straightened is not healthy or damaged, but it’s not with this technique. Japanese Hair Straightening allows you hair to breathe as it’s non-coated as is the case with normal methods. This opposes the idea that straightened hair is damaged hair. If you like, the Japanese Hair Straightening can be reversed to obtain natural curls once more.
Generally speaking, the system will last as it is a permanent answer to curly hair but you will require 1 or 2 touch ups from time to time. Long hair could take about 4 to 5 hours to be entirely completed. On the other hand short hair might only take about a couple hours. When people ask what the lowest age to have the treatment goes, it is usually agreed that children as young as 12 years old can safely be treated. Grey hair can also be nicely treated using the japanese hair straightening so I assume there is no upper age limit.
Research indicates that a few people may be susceptible to side effects to the treatment, especially those with dermatitis on the scalp. Itchiness and welts are quite common in a few people, so if you have sensitive skin or any skin condition on your scalp, you should get medical advice prior to having treatment by the japanese hair straightening.
By definition, a hair relaxer is a lotion or cream that makes the hair easier to straighten and manage. It reduces the curl by breaking down the hair strand and chemically altering the texture. Most women who decide to get their hair relaxed have curls that are unmanageable and in need of taming. The results vary depending on your hair type, but usually a hair relaxer will leave your hair straight for about six to eight weeks. Unlike other permanent straightening methods, relaxing your hair will require touch-ups from time to time. You can go to a professional stylist, or you can purchase a hair relaxing kit to be used at home.
Hair Botox is a revolutionary hair treatment that restores protein while straightening, smoothing and nurturing hair. Designed to provide women with beautiful and manageable hair, it uses its protein-rich formula to battle the over-processed chemicals that leave hair looking lifeless and dull.
Starting at the root and all the way to the ends, it straightens each hair strand with its ultra-nourishing technology that restores the damaged cortex and hair cuticles. The results: healthier, smoother, softer and polished hair for up to 12 weeks.
In the same way that Botox helps smooth out wrinkles on your face, Hair Botox takes the damaged strands and smooth’s out the surface of your locks — hence the Botox reference. The process starts with a clarifying shampoo, making sure your strands are extra-clean, with zero residue. The Hair Botox product is then applied to the hair, section by section, which should take approximately 45 minutes. Once the hair has absorbed all the protein and antioxidants, it is then washed with sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, and styled as desired.
The promises are similar to the offerings of Keratin treatments: silky, smooth, frizz-free hair. Keratin treatments are still among the most-talked about and desired procedures in the hair care industry. Experience this professional, demi-permanent smoothing treatment that helps you simplify your daily styling routine by smoothing texture for up to two months. The Keratin treatment breakthrough formula delivers sleek, controllable hair that stays smooth all day, every day-with minimal styling effort.
Both treatments create nourished, restored, and revived hair right from the very first use.
